Episode 7 Season 2 Outtake : The Phone Fiasco

So the 7th Episode “Fefe is in a…”relationship” was already one of the longest shows in The Oddist’s history so when people started calling on the show’s phone it became even longer. Since people called and John had no idea how to work the phone system he setup it became a nightmare pretty fast. Listen to John’s ridiculous attempt at having a phone on the show. Total and utter fiasco.

Almost St.Patrick’s Day

The Sunday before St. Patrick’s Day John walked around downtown Royal Oak and harrassed people as to why they were celebrating. This recording was to noisy to use in an episode of The Oddist but it’s good enough for here. Not really funny but as always…odd.

Lost Neo-Tokyo Recordings #1

In 1995 John “The Oddist” Tenney owned and operated a Japanese toy-store/coffeehouse called Neo-Tokyo and The Oversized Monster Cafe. It was located in Royal Oak, Michigan and kids from all over the area flocked there to hangout, drink coffee and watch Ultraman. Most of the customers didn’t know that there was a 4-track recorder in John’s office where, randomly, songs would be recorded about the people who frequented the store. One of those customers was a 12 year-old named Hal. His antics and hyperactivity were a great source of amusment for the staff of Neo-Tokyo, so a song was written about him. After the song was recorded John got Hal to record some key quotes and overdubbed them into the song. Here for your enjoyment is a 12 year old Hal and an almost Neil Diamond sounding John Tenney performing “Hal, why are you drunk?”

Scotch is my best friend. Man, am I drunk.

The Oddist: Rare first Recording Kinda

Discovered in the dark and murky basement of The Oddist comes this recording made in 1977. John “The Oddist” Tenney is interviewed by his older sister. What can you learn from this age-old recording? Well, you’ll learn that John has almost always been kind of a dick. The tape recorder used for this session was won by saving up Pepsi bottle-caps, the make and model of the organ/keyboard remains unknown.
